“We have created a program that offers a flexible set of benefits – and tremendous value – for the frequent Orlando golfer,” said Rob Turner, director of golf, Waldorf Astoria Orlando.

Waldorf Astoria Orlando Golf Club - Diamond Tee ClubThe Waldorf Astoria Golf Club, created by acclaimed golf course architect Rees Jones, is an 18-hole, 7,108-yard championship course, and the first golf course for the Waldorf Astoria brand. With its distinctive setting within the Bonnet Creek nature preserve, the course gives golfers a sense of being alone with nature.

Using the land’s natural contours as a canvas and a fertile imagination as his palette, Rees Jones meticulously designed the course to reflect the world’s classic courses, some designed a century ago. A true 18-hole masterpiece, the layout ingeniously blends its traditional character with endless subtleties for a challenging experience. Mindful of the natural elements and in homage to the game’s storied history, Jones created a course of great integrity and environmental consciousness that seamlessly folds into the terrain, so it appears to have been here forever.

In its first two years of operation, the club has caught the attention of the golf community. It was named Golf Digest’s 2009 best new public golf course, and made Golf magazine’s prestigious list of Florida’s “Top Courses You Can Play.” Most recently, it was given the 2012 Silver Medal Award from Golf magazine.

Waldorf Astoria Orlando has put the destination on the map for luxury travelers. Nestled within a nature preserve and conveniently accessed inside the gates of Walt Disney World property, the resort is a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of neighboring theme parks. Cara Goldsbury, author of Luxury Guide to Disney World, calls it “stunningly impressive.” “Swank and sophisticated,” she continued, “Waldorf Astoria has redefined local luxury in Orlando.”

Did you know that Oct. 1 is a significant date in Orlando history?  It’s time to celebrate Florida — this is a milestone year!  Today marks the 40th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort.

  Magic Kingdom dedication

October 1: Grand opening of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

Oct. 1, 1971  –   Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom opened its doors.
More than 10,000 visitors arrived to witness the park’s opening day, to see Walt’s dream they followed through the magic of television.  Sadly, Walt didn’t live to see his dream realized.  Since then, however, the park has brought joy and happiness to millions of people every year.

And there are other anniversaries to celebrate as well:

Epcot groundbreaking ceremony

Oct. 1, 1979 –  Ground is broken for EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World.
The ground breaking for Epcot featured every governor who had a hand in the development of Walt Disney World.

EPCOT Center Grand Opening Poster

Oct. 1, 1982 –  Walt Disney World’s EPCOT Center opened its doors.
More than 100 television crews from around the world traveled to Orlando to cover the opening, which included a dedication of Spaceship Earth by Walt Disney’s wife Lillian.

The official ribbon cutting for Waldorf Astoria Orlando

Oct. 1, 2009 –  Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek officially opened their  doors.
Both hotels are part of Bonnet Creek Resort, a 482-acre resort conveniently nestled within Walt Disney World property, yet secluded within a private nature preserve.  Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty, City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Golf Course Architect Rees Jones were among the dignitaries leading ribbon-cutting events.  Oct. 1 was also the official opening day for Waldorf Astoria Golf Club, the first golf club to bear the Waldorf Astoria brand name.  In their first two years of operation, the hotels have been featured on the Today Show, CNN, MSNBC, Travel + Leisure, New York Post, American Spa magazine, Spa magazine, and within hundreds more media outlets.

Amway Center Orlando Magic Grand Opening

Oct. 1, 2010 –  Amway Center officially opened its doors.
Last year, Orlando’s new Amway Center opened its doors to the Central Florida community for the first time.  The new state-of-the-art events center is home to the Orlando Magic basketball team, and world-class events.

The entire team at Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek are proud of our second anniversary.  Thank you for helping to make us two of the most “talked about” hotels in the Southeast!
