You can recognize Les Clefs d’Or concierges by the keys they display on the lapels of their uniforms. These crossed gold keys are more than just the symbol of the organization; they are the symbol of excellence and quality service.

Les Clefs d’Or, pronounced “lay clay door,” is French and literally translates as “keys of gold.”  Les Clefs d’Or USA  is the only national organization of hotel lobby concierges.

Sushi Restaurant at Disney World

Zeta Bar Serves the Best Sushi inside the gates of Disney World.

Did you know Zeta Bar at Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek is Orlando’s newest place for sensational sushi?

The man behind the sushi at Zeta Bar is Chef Daniel Ling.  Chef Daniel was born in Hong Kong and came to the United States in 1988 to work as a server in Epcot’s Nine Dragons Restaurant.

After Disney, Daniel decided to further the hospitality education that he started in Hong Kong by attending Mid Florida Tech, followed by  the California Sushi Academy in Venice Beach.  After graduating, he worked as a Sushi Chef in California before returning to Central Florida, where he was Sushi Chef at Kimono’s, a popular sushi establishment.

Daniel left Kimono’s after 12 years to join us in Zeta Bar as Sushi Chef Extraordinaire.

We know.  Our mothers have always said that it isn’t nice to brag.  So, it is with much… um… hesitation.. that we share the following news.  (And, for a Hilton team, it is AMAZING news, indeed…)

Orlando Hotel Wins Hilton's Top Award

On the final day of Award Week for Hilton Hotels & Resorts, it was just announced that Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek (as well as our older sibling Hilton Orlando) was awarded the highest honor for the corporation, the Connie Award, named after brand founder Conrad Hilton.  This elusive honor, in the large hotel category for the Americas,  is awarded to the hotel with highest overall combined ranking for loyalty, service, condition, and cleanliness based on guest feedback and Quality Assurance scores.

Congratulations to the entire team for winning the Connie Award, including Peter Kacheris, managing director; and Tracy Walker, general manager. 

And what a week it’s been!  Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek received the top honors (in the large hotel category) in the categories of Housekeeping (we’ve got the cleanest rooms in the Americas!), Food & Beverage (our restaurants have been singled out as the most innovative!), and cultural and community activities (we’ve got Hilton Blue Energy!).  The Connie Award simply takes the cake… and (in our eyes) makes it a clean sweep!

And, yes, we apologize for bragging.  But when a team works this hard, it warms the heart to see such recognition.  And you want to share it with anybody who will listen!  Please help us to celebrate our success.  It has been our pleasure to provide a memorable guest experience for the past year.

Executive Pastry Chef Kurtis Baguley will compete in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Monday for the title of American Culinary Federation (ACF) Southeast Region Pastry Chef of the Year.   The winner will advance to the national competition here in Orlando, July 14–17.

The ACF Pastry Chef of the Year award recognizes a pastry chef who displays a passion for the craft, has an accomplished reputation in the pastry field and has helped educate others by sharing skills and knowledge.  Certainly, anybody who has sampled the amazing pastries that come out of Chef Kurtis’ kitchen can vouch for his excellence in the field.

If you enjoy watching the chef-based reality shows on television, this challenge will seem familiar:

  • At this  regional competition, Chef Kurtis will prepare four portions of a hot/warm dessert featuring pineapple.
  • He will have 15 minutes to set up, 60 minutes to cook, 10 minutes to plate the dessert and 15 minutes to clean up.
  • Judges will evaluate cooking skills, taste and professionalism.

The winner will be announced at the Regional Awards Gala, Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Chef Kurtis Baguley’s competition bio:

Chef Kurtis Baguley is executive pastry chef at Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort. He facilitated the startup of the hotels’ pastry kitchens, developed crews, and created menus for the properties’ openings. Baguley oversees a staff of 14 employees and eight food outlets. Born and raised in South Carolina, he earned an associate degree in European cuisine from California Culinary Academy, San Francisco. For 25 years he worked at some of the top hotel pastry kitchens in San Francisco, including Silks at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel; Redwood Room at the Clift Hotel; and Scala’s Bistro at Sir Francis Drake Hotel. Baguley then moved to New York to work for a restaurant group producing desserts for five restaurants and running the group’s full-scale artisan bread company. After working in Napa, Calif., and Salt Lake City, Baguley moved to Florida. He is a member of ACF Central Florida Chapter.

At this weekend fantasy of chocolate indulgence, guests can sample a selection of approximately 30 hand-made chocolates and pastries from the pastry kitchen of Chef Kurtis Baguley.  These aren’t your normal candy counter treats, either.  You can expect to find exotic creations made in-house using recipes from the most romantic spots around the world.
